Youth With a mission
Now this story dates all the way back to the summer of 1956. A 20-year-old young man was in Nassau, Bahamas touring with his singing group. Loren Cunningham recalls laying in bed praying to God for Him to reveal Himself to Loren that night. Suddenly Loren was captivated by a map of the world-the Lord was giving him a vision of his calling. This young man was captured by this map, which appeared to have waves crashing over continents and receding. Then the waves transformed into young people, Loren’s age and younger, all reaching out over the continents. This vision established Youth with a Mission in 1960. Loren and his wife Darlene Scratch co-founders of this, “international volunteer movement of Christians from many backgrounds, cultures and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world (DH par. 1).”
Furthermore, YWAM has grown into a ginormous organization committed to furthering the gospel. A great example of someone involved in YWAM is Dustin and Haydee Campbell. This married couple along with their three children (Michaella, Lemuel, and Justin) are focused on training, staffing, and leading Discipleship Training Schools (DTS). The Campbells have a huge heart to serve and watch as God grows the people around them. They have learned to equip staff and leaders to produce excellent schools “which will in turn raise up the much needed missionaries for today's world (dustincampbell par. 1).” The Campbells are people seeking out to love and grow others through their faith that those others may live lives fully to the glory of Christ.
